Strawberry Banana Flax Smoothie

Do you like getting smoothies? It may be a little early, as there are still some cold mornings out there, but these Strawberry Banana Flax Smoothies are definitely making me feel like warmer weather will come! I do not always like getting smoothies out at stores because they tend to add what seems like a million different things to each smoothie, and I am admittedly a bit picky when it comes to smoothies. I like smoothies that are simple, and full of flavors I know I like.

Until recently, I was not that into the banana flavor. After much (semi-forced) exposure, I have come to appreciate banana flavor, and even accept it into my smoothies {kinda a big deal for me}. This smoothie brings you both the flavors of strawberry and banana, with a smooth and slight thickness. This is not one of those smoothies that you need to constantly shift your straw around in the cup to try and get all of it- the thickness can be made according to your personal preferences.

With the added benefits of fruit, yogurt, milk and flax seed, this smoothie is a super-charged way to start your morning! This can be part of or you entire breakfast, or an afternoon treat that you can feel good about. This recipe is great for sharing, or you can freeze half of it for a later day- it also works well being halved for a single serving.

Another great thing about these smoothies is that they are not only simple to make, they use things you probably already have in your house! Do you have a banana that is getting a bit too ripe? Use it for this smoothie and you’ll get a great banana kick out of the smoothie! Don’t have flax seeds? That is a-okay, you can just omit them. They add extra fiber and omega-3, as well as natural antioxidants. Definitely a super-food way to help you get going!

What Efrain and I like to do is have a Banana Nut Yogurt Muffin before heading to the gym, and then come back and enjoy a delicious smoothie afterwards! The prep time is only minutes, requires only a few ingredients, and yet it gives you a wonderful start to your day. Try one now, and join us in celebrating the fact that spring is upon us and summer will soon be here!

Directions:

Place all of the ingredients into a blender.

Blend according to blender directions- we start off on low speed for ~20 seconds, then medium speed for ~20 seconds, and finally high speed for ~45 seconds.

Pour into glasses or a to-go cup and enjoy!

*Extra smoothie can be placed in the freezer and saved for another day.
