Triple Berry Smoothie

Three fun and fruity flavors come together in this quick and easy smoothie that results in a delicious and creamy treat!  The perfect way to cool off in the summer heat in less than 5 minutes with less than 5 ingredients!

I think that by now you can tell that Efrain and I like smoothies.  I mean, have you seen our smoothie collection?  Strawberry Banana Flax; Cinnamon Bun; Strawberry Raspberry Lemonade...We definitely enjoy some nice and cold smoothie goodness, especially in the heat of the summer.  If you are looking for a great smoothie to enjoy on a hot day, one to revitalize you after a work-out, or just something to have because you love fruity flavors, this is my latest smoothie addiction.

Strawberry was my main fruit flavor, but you can easily swap one of the other fruits (raspberry or blackberry) or just skip having one main fruit entirely, and use all mixed berries.  One of the wonderful things about this recipe is that you can customize it to how you like.  Not a fan of one of the berries?  Switch it out and use another fruit or only two berries.  Regardless, this smoothie will deliver creamy cold refreshment.  WIth only 4 ingredients (not counting the ice), you really can't go wrong with this smoothie!

Aside from the frozen fruit, you probably already have all of the ingredients in your refrigerator.  For the summer time, I personally think it is an investment to buy the large size bags of frozen fruit- it saves you from multiple trips when you run out, and buying in bulk saves you money.  I have a 3 pound bag of mixed berries in my freezer right now, which is where the inspiration for this smoothie came from.  I am happy to report that the bag has since been joined by a 6 pound bag of strawberries.  Yes, you can expect more strawberry recipes in the next few months! :)

Another great thing about this smoothie include that it freezes well- just put the leftover smoothie into a freezer-safe container, and take it out to keep in the fridge either the night before or the morning of the day you want to have it.  Or, if you only want 1 serving, simply halve the recipe.  I have done both, and it works wonderfully because then I just make it according to my wants that day.

I put in more ice because I like my smoothies on the thicker and creamier side.  If you prefer a smoothie that is less thick, and better suited for a straw, use fewer ice cubes.  I really love how the berries mix together to create such a pretty color.  This smoothie not only tastes great, but it looks amazing too!

Triple Berry Smoothie

Ingredients:

½ cup milk (any kind)

½ cup vanilla yogurt (I used non-fat; Greek yogurt will make a thicker smoothie)

Heaping ½ cup mixed frozen strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries

½ cup frozen strawberries

8-10 ice cubes

In a blender, combine all of the ingredients.  Blend everything together until smooth.  Pour into 2 glasses and enjoy!
